There’s a lot to learn about CBD to say the least! That’s why we’ve created a CBD 101 primer to teach you the ins and outs of CBD.
What is CBD?
CBD stands for cannabidiol, a chemical compound found in hemp plants.
It works by interacting with the endocannabinoid system, where the CBD attaches to cannabinoid receptors (CB1 and CB2 receptors, specifically) located throughout the body to create a variety of healthful effects.
how does cbd work?
CBD helps your body achieve better balance.
CBD interreacts with our body’s endocannabinoid system, a large system that helps regulate physiological symptoms including: appetite, mood, and sleep. The endocannabinoid system is also connected to how we experience pain. In this sense, the effects of CBD are indirect, meaning that CBD does not heal the body but rather empowers an important regulatory system to keep the body working properly.
CB1 receptors are primarily found in the brain & central nervous systen and to a lesser exetent in other tissues.
CB2 receptors are mostly found in ther peripheral organs, especially in cells associated with the immune system.
Modes of Administration
One of the most efficient ways to absorb CBD and other cannabinoids is through the mucosal lining of the mouth. CBD products placed under the tongue (sublingually) take effect more quickly than those absorbed through the general mucosal tissue lining of the mouth or placed on the tongue itself.
CBD products that are ingested take a bit longer to be broken down because they pass through the gastrointestinal tract and liver before entering the bloodstream. CBD products that are ingested can take from 30 minutes to 2 hours to take effect depending on a number of variables — including what someone has eaten, how much they’ve eaten and their body weight.
CBD products enter the body through the layers of the skin. CBD topicals are effective at relieving pain and inflammation in the area in which they are applied. CBD topicals offer fast-acting, localized effects. For maximum results, apply a CBD topical in combination with a sublingually or orally ingested CBD product.
